RM is the leader of BTS and a rapper. He also produces many of BTS's songs. As the leader, RM settles conflicts among BTS members and keeps them united. He also has many responsibilities, such as making speeches and leading the group in foreign countries.
RM started out in underground rap at a young age. When he was 14 or 15 he was noticed by Big Hit Entertainment for his powerful raps and extensive wordplay, becoming the first member of BTS. (They were originally a hip-hop group, and as such the first members were rappers. RM used to stand for Rap Monster, but over time he realized the name didn't suit him.) The underground community believed RM had betrayed hip-hop for becoming an idol, and idol fans thought he didn't fit idol beauty standards. Thankfully, as BTS shot to popularity, the haters mostly shut up.
RM is extremely intelligent and has an IQ of 148. He is also the only member fluent in English, making him stand out on talk shows in America. He is philosophical and humble, giving inspirational speeches, whether they be at concerts or the United Nations. In his UN speech, RM spoke in about BTS's campaign with UNICEF about self-love. He described his childhood and how music was his only refuge in a world where his dreams seemed like they didn't matter. In a moving conclusion, he urged his audience to speak themselves and share their experiences.
