BTS are a South Korean boy band. They made their debut on June 13, 2013, and have seven members. Three members are rappers, and the other four are vocalists.
In the midst of the largely manufactured K-pop industry, BTS stand out with their self-written songs and lyrics that discuss otherwise taboo topics such as mental health and the pressure of society. Like any other K-pop band, they also have intricate choreography to accompany their music.
BTS's mouthful of a name means "Bulletproof Boy Scouts" in Korean. At the time of their debut, it suited their dark hip-hop concept nicely. However, over the course of their complex evolution, it became rather less applicable. Over their so-far lifespan of five years, they have told a story through their concepts as well, a story of children growing up and maturing. The tale of their most recent trilogy of albums is of young, innocent love that slowly gives way to doubt and eventually separation. In a wholesome turn, the series ultimately concludes with the message of self-love.
BTS and their company were poor when they first debuted, and they struggled to make it as an obscure group from a tiny company. However, this struggle has made the members indefinitely closer. Through spending more than 6 years living together starting from a tiny cramped dorm, BTS have said themselves that they are more than friends and are instead a family.
